People back home ask me; “Why are you on Putin’s side?” Well, a simple browser function called a “screenshot” speaks volumes on that. I don’t like lies, and especially those that get people killed. What’s more I hate spoiled sports and unsportsmanlike conduct. Putin, he’s the best sportsman among our world’s leaders. But most people already know this.

On the news from where you are front, here’s that screenshot I mentioned. You’ll note that Google News presents the several hundred million with just what the US State Department ordered, and not a lot more. Isn’t it interesting how Military Times fits nicely into the top spot in my browser?

Russia’s staggered economy, Putin bent on an arms race, these and other rumors have now been fed to Americans for 18 months, and with scarcely a whimper of “foul” or of “hey wait a minute” even from citizens. And my colleagues and friend carry on, as if this does not matter. Well it does matter! If they will swallow this, then there is no hope for a free America. You know the rest of the story from the history books.
For now though, let’s look at what Mr. Putin is really up to today, shall we? I mean since we are all so terrified and curious about his next move! About 6 hours ago Mr. Putin did hold a briefing session with the permanent members of his security council. In that meeting, though Yahoo News and the rest failed to notice, Putin quizzed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the takeaway from his Paris meetings. Lavrov iterated on the consensus:
“On the whole, it was not useless because even despite certain wrangling during the discussion, the main outcome was the acknowledgement of the fact that there is no alternative to complete fulfilment of the Minsk Agreements.”
Nowhere in the news Americans read can one find anything but a form of propaganda craftsmanship that completely ignores many facts. Russia being “forced” into revamping her military by NATO expansion plans is just not in the public interest, evidently. The Associated Press does however blame Mr. Putin’s popularity rating (almost 90%) on state propaganda! Now there’s the pot calling the kettle black. Dissenters in Russia these days are as scarce as hen’s teeth, and everybody knows it. Except, that is, the people of the United States. Somehow though, I suspect they are learning.
Now comes the fun part of this report. Many of you probably wonder why alternative media outlets like Russia Insider, The Saker, and even Sputnik or RT complain so much about the mass media misinformation boom going on. Well here’s one big reason Americans get to play dumb over Putin and a lot more. The next time you have a minute copy and past the lead in paragraph of any major story into Google. The end result is useful, look below.

Fascinating huh? Now imagine 2o mainstream media outlets with slightly different lead ins or headlines etc. Plug in a smaller fish, but an important one. The Newsweek story captured below is indicative of just how easy it is for corporate media to control everything you see and hear in America. You read that correctly, I said “everything” you think you know.

Add in Reuters, BBC, whatever Rupert Murdoch owns, and you have a recipe for crowd control. Look at what happens when a Sky News story gets regurgitated.

Any questions? There should not be any. Comcast to Dreamworks and the rest of Hollywood, you’re owned mind and body by some powerful people who want war with Putin and Russia. You can argue the “war” part, but you cannot intelligently compare Russia’s news media to what 99 percent of Americans and Brits see all day every day.
Is Putin rearming Russia? He’d damn well better be. What kind of leader would not with NATO at the front door and “We the People” turned into mindless zombies for billionaire arms dealers?
And that is the only story you need for today, no bullshit.
Well said Phil!!!
Thank you for the truth.
Thanks for your kind words Evgen. We must tell the truth.
Anyone who has scence of logic and not paid to say/think otherwise can see what is going on, like you mr. Butler. Thank you for having guts to speak.
Thing is – capitalism deprives from fairness and bravery. It is sad to know that those who orcestr the escalation will stay safe and well while we shoot each other like a bunch of stupid pigs…
Thanks for the kind words GuestfromRussia… I know we must tell the truth here in Europe especially, and not kill one another so those far off can prosper.
I apologize in advance for the bad English, I use google translate
Thank you very much Phill. So few Americans see and understand what is happening. I think the Americans have ceased to think, analyze and think logically. Nearer the time when a full-scale nuclear war will be inevitable. Such people as you push back the apocalypse.
Let a little, but push back. I will be sorry when the planet will die.
Браво!
Редко такое на западе услышишь.
To find the answer to the question, it is sufficient to include logical thinking, to know the history and the foundations of the Orthodox religion. As the Savior said: Judge not by words but by their deeds. What is the result of Putin ?! Russian independent, grows stronger, developing the spirit of patriotism is resurrected after 90s. One fact that the United States hate us already talking about the positive dynamics!
Ridiculously smart and adequate article!
You are very kind. It is just stuff we see every day
Very delicate and clever article. Good luck to you, Phil!
Thx Dmitriy, and to you too.
greetings from Australia. Good article – thanx. Every your word is truth….sad but truth…
Howdy down under Vladlen, thanks for taking the time.
Mr. Phil – Please go ahead with what you doing. One day truth will be there!
I certainly hope so Georgiy.
Thanks Phil for the truth, it was good if you typed Vaington post.
Thanks a lot vkfriendly. 🙂
Mostly Russians in comments. I wonder how many Americans or British will ever read this.
As stated, not as many as read The New York Times… however, this story is not just here, as you see. It is also on Russia Insider, and spread across a network of tens of thousands of people in my own network, and so on.
Another thing, if you pass this article to someone you know in the west, this makes a difference. I am not saying this to get more traffic or fame, I can get that other places. I am saying this because this is how the truth wins. I guess you all already know that.
Unfortunately, mainstream Western media resemble more and more those of the Korean People’s Democratic Republic.
Exactly
a good article by Stephen Cohen on the subjet http://sputniknews.com/politics/20150627/1023923646.html
Thank You very much Phil for such a wise and brave article!
I believe it can make people think twice about what is going on in this war of propaganda.
On the other hand I see most of the comments under the arcticle are from Russians – it seems that Americans don’t want to pay attention to it. That is sad.
Yes Alexey, this is an uphill battle for truth. This blog, for instance, does not get so many visitors. However, the ones who do come are either very kind, or they are “looking” to what I have discovered of late. The ip addresses of the US State Department, and many other interesting entities appear on posts like this one.
Finding out or revealing the truth, the Russia Today, Russia Insider, or myriad other media and social media channels, it does have a cumulative effect. In digital marketing we term the effect “amplified word of mouth” .. this is something that cannot be stopped. I guess the point here is, it is the “idea” which must be telling enough to be carried elsewhere. With information as to “how” the mainstream affects us all, each of you spreads these messages worldwide.
So, this story is not so much about the “exactitudes” of the long tail of search, but about how easily we are deceived. Knowing there are people who do such things, and to our detriment, is the first step to fixing our problems.
In the first google searched, you searched for a translation of an official Putin quote, that is on Kremlin.ru website. So any news article that talks about Putin would be silly not to quote a recent Putin quote. The content of the article can be quite different, however.
True, this was to show one method of contextualizing a lie. If I want to craft something that has credibility elements, but takes the reader somewhere else, I use the “horse’s mouth” to get the message across.
(sorry, I use online translation)
Thank you, Phil!
You speak the truth! I wish you success!
With love from Russia!
In truth force!!
Hey Phil it’s nice (and rare) occasion to see a sane english-speaking person this days.
Thanks Oleg. I fear, unless we do our very best, there will be fewer and fewer sane ones. America is in the grip of some very nasty people in my view.
Thank you very much for your article! I have something to add.
Just 15-10 years ago we here in Russia perceived the BBC and Fox News as an example of quality journalism, compared them with our media. Another hand last year we all saw a dirty work of US and EU media covering the only side of Ukrainian events and choosing words to show what monster Putin is.
But we were not wondered of this stuff. First time Russians and people of countries that had an alternative point of view were really shocked by western media coverage when the events in Georgia in 2008th took place. The coverage was full of arrogance and hypocrisy of lies that we saw very clear.
Let me recall. At August, 8th when Putin, prime minister, was on Olimpic games in China, Medvedev, the president, was fishing on Volga on vocations, and Russian General Staff this day was relocating to another building with officers sitting on the “boxes”, Georgia suddenly and perfidiously has attacked South Ossetia, killed more than 70 Russian soldiers – peacekeepers, 2 thousands of local civilians.
Two days later Russia has sent troops into the territory of South Ossetia, throwing the Georgian army to the borders of the republic, not further then to the border (but it easily should go further), All Western media were shouting the only point of view – Russia is the aggressor, bombing civilians (showing footage of Georgians shelling civilians with rockets), defenseless Georgians are in the hands of the barbarians.
Since then we are very careful with news from western media – US harmed itself. Of course we understand that propaganda is a part of game in every card house. But Russia would not have achieve even a small portion of the success of discreditation of western media, which the United States brought itself while showing that conflict. Just watch this brief video from Fox News.
https://youtu.be/oV_UWA7iYy8?t=1m40s
We all get used that Russian TV, press gives a word to everyone, Ukrainian politicians, American ambassador etc are everyday guests on live TV shows at prime time – pluralism is the only good thing Gorbachev gave to Russia IMHO. No one in Russia could tell that had no access to the information from the opposite side and he had been deceived by governmental media. More over, because of pluralism Putin and the government had to respond on the most uncomfortable questions, including from the other side. As a result of answering such hard questions, among them are claims of the opposite side, people trust the government and the President, feel confident and proud that they are citizens of Russia.
In the age of information it is not possible to control the minds of the world another way but by truth. Politicians and soldiers have to do honest and noble things and they will be supported by everyone. So sure we all someday will realize that Russia, US, China, Iran, Israel and others are just guests on a single planet and have to think about how to survive and be happy together. It shell be so!
And in this kind of exactitude, we learn more of the truth of NATO and US hegemony. For me, as an American, I am actually appalled at my own brainwashing. All these decades, dedicated to surrounding a foe that was not a foe at all.
We should have minded our own business all along, and perhaps most of the world’s conflicts could have been avoided.
First of all Phil, thanks for the article.
Sadly, but i think US economics can’t exist w/o hegemony.
All you said about NATO, surrounding foe etc. all this things are targeted to having economical benefits.
Its oil when we talk about Middle East, its markets for american goods when we talking about Europe etc.
All theese moves has economical meaning.
So thats why nothing will change. US will use all its power to has whole world under control. Otherwise US Economics will fail whorse then 193x.
All leaders understand it, and i will not surprised if someday we will realise that Putin and Obama has some agreement and all this theatre we are looking at is the covering to slowly resetup global economics. Cuz if not… fail will be disaster to every country on planet.
Sorry for my bad english
Phil, glad to hear that more and more people in the West understand what is going on in the world and how deceived they are.
The more people open their eyes – the better.
Take care, I would be worry for myself printing articles like this living in the USA.
Make sure you will not be another Assange or Snowden… on the other hand just few in the US or the West will listen what you are saying. The US never listen what the world says – and that is a big problem for the US and whole world.
Thanks! Good luck!
Thanks for the amazing article Phil. It looks like the Europe begins to awake from the bad dream. Or maybe its just a hope. We just need to have a hope – do we?
And about US – well i don’t know what to say…
It is a good sign that some people are not brainwashed yet and have guts to speak the truth.
But please be careful as *suddenly* you may appear as a “pedophile”, a “Kremlin bribe-taker”, or a “hotel maid rapist” – I bet you better know what they do to put down “wrong” public persons.
I agree with media manipulation tricks. Also, I have nothing bad about Russians. But I can not fathom taking side of a person who backs dictators in his own games. One of them is Karimov, the President of Uzbekistan, well known for torturing (including boiling alive) people in opposition or ones who just ask for their constitutional rights.
An international investigation, right after 2005 Andijan massacre was one of the best chances available for people of Uzbekistan to be freed from this dictator. But Putin backed the dictator in exchange for getting rid of the American base in Karshi, Uzbekistan, and buying Uzbek gas at $55 per thousand cubic meters, while Russia was selling at almost $200.
Thank you, mr. Butler
жаль что очень малая часть людей прислушается к вашим словам.
Phil, thank you for the article and pravdu.Ochen pity that few of your compatriots want it to (((….
Unfortunately now we all watching a 4th World War. It’s war not with the weapon as 2nd World War.
This is a World War the same as 3rd World War called “Cold War”. So it’s a mEDIA war between Russia and America. The winner will be a great liar.
Howdy Phillip,
The article is worth sharing. To be informed means nowadays to be. Thank you.

Thank you, for the honesty.
If you will visit Russia, you will surprise, that there is not at all state propaganda about Putin. All the people’s love to their leader caused by stable growth of standard of living and primarily the return Crimea to the Motherland. In mind of population this actions perceive like extremely fair. We, Russians, value the rectitude, and attach importance to protect defenseless nations. Our country carry out brilliant operation, without spilling a drop of blood, and made happy 2,3 million residents of Crimea. Not surprisingly, that such sure steps to protect the interests of his country causing great respect for Putin among Russians.
Sorry for my bad english. Good luck to your activities.
Так война то будет?
Vladimir Putin, Is That You?
What a difference a few years makes. Back in 2008, in an interview on German television, Russian President Vladimir Putin upbraided his host for asking whether Moscow had any designs on Ukraine and its Crimean Peninsula.
The conversation took place soon after Moscow’s military intervention in Georgia and Putin was pointedly asked whether Ukraine, and particularly Crimea, could be next.
Putin, his temper flaring, said Russia recognized all of Ukraine’s borders and, he added, there was no ethnic tensions at all in Crimea — something the Kremlin emphasized as a key reason for its 2014 forced annexation of the peninsula. http://www.rferl.org/content/vladimir-putin-defends-ukraine-borders/26942991.html
I respect you view, but it is a view with blinders attached. In 2008, for instance; NATO, the EU, and the US administration were not at the point of seizing Russia’s biggest warm water port on Crimea. Admitted and proven Nazis and right wing psychopaths were not burning people alive in Odessa, and the Russian language had not been virtually outlawed by the Kiev government.
Since you speak of Georgia, it was the United States that fueled that fire, as well as the one in Armenia, and before that the crisis in Afghanistan during Cold War I. What happens, to even educated people, is that they see only what they want to see. We tend to try and prove the reality we want to prove. Russia was never going to allow NATO in Crimea. Anybody who assumes she would is in a delirium.
If we look back in time, it’s easy to see this whole affair is just another version of the same old story. Only the affiliations and names have changed slightly.
Or at least this is as good a theory as any. We are now at a point where nothing is even believable any more. Do Americans spy on Americans? Are corporations allowed whatever freedom they want, are they in fact individuals? Is anyone really free at all? And most interestingly, what if Vladimir Putin is the defender of the faithful?
We’ve examined and operated for decades on the other side of these theories… and here we are.
The world can only do better by adopting some new ideas of what right and wrong is. This is my view.
Thank you, for the honesty.

The whole history showing us examples of great lairs. The only 20 century provides more than enough of it. Finally today we see
1. A country which is the greatest fighter for democracy in whole world: This fighter did some mistakes in the past, like mostly eliminated native nation on the whole continent, or used slaves for building of abundance. But as all of it was in the past and the country became adult, it recognised the mistakes and corrected them, even if it was few hundred years after. (same rights for black people only after 1956) Yea, country became adult and corrected its mistakes. It became fair. Does it? When Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be corrected? What was the reason doing so? I know, it was needed to stop Communists and prevent them to take Japan over. Do the Japanese agree with that reason? Did they forgiven that? Then it was necessary to save Vietnam and cure them with napalm. Do the vietnams agree with that and forgiven the cure methods? Ok, long time ago, country becomes adult and corrected mistakes. Really? What was the reason to fire with uranium shells in Belgrad? Yes, it was necessary to save Democracy. And the “evil Saddam? Aha, there was an urgent request to save democracy in Iraq and the Dictator had to be hung as an sign of Freedom. The same needed to be done with another Dictator in a neighbour country. As a sign of democracy he was punished to death. Well done!
Considering the theory: Country becomes adult and can do mistakes, while the idea of its handling was sublime, we should believe in the idea and hope that current handling will not end in disaster (like ISIS after the dictators were punished) Should we? Looking in current situation, people like Phil understand, that current handling is not really sublime and we shouldn’t hope that this time it will be much better.
2. Another Democracy fighter. It caused 2 world wars. (killed 75 Millions) It tried to eliminate one nation and bunch of other nations. This country showed to the world how the people can be if they believe in own exclusivity. This country understood the mistakes and correct them by supporting democracy with the big brother (it’s ok if the big brother is watching)
3. We have another country, the barbaric one which has been mostly converted several times trough civilised and democratic countries. But somehow it could stand. Now this barbarian wants prevent conversion trough elimination of own people in some special region. The Democratic community is outraged, “What, they prevent killing trough democracy? We have to put them in place! Sanctions!
The impression of all this happening is: A beautiful idea called democracy becomes converted trough a big distorting mirror and transferred to the world to get impunity. The thing is, those who converts the idea, having all resources to get the transformation successful. Thank you Phil for your position! Even having that might be dangerous you are a real Hero!
Thank you Pablo. I am already feeling a bit of pain, western media outlets sold out and ostracizing me after years of collaboration, that sort of thing. No matter, they all go down in the book.
The thing is, we have to live by what we stand for. I’ll stand with right over wrong.
Phil,
Back in 1991 and until smth 1999 we (former soviets) actually were looking at the West with a profound interest and hope to learn smth new we didn’t know because of the Iron Curtain. However, over the last 24 years a lot of people traveled, lived, studied, worked etc. in the West since then (and this is good part of globalization) and actually didn’t find any, so much advertised by West, freedom of speech, glasnost etc.
After 1999 bombardments of Yugoslavia and second Chechen war and how those events were covered and handled by western media Russians quickly realized what the West is not much better than was the Soviet Union and started to feel really disappointed and frustrated.
A lot of people suddenly realized that such Western media cynicism could be only if the westerners really believe in what they are saying and doing or if it is intentional whopping lie. Both ways are deeply inappropriate for highly sensible for justice Russians.
Over the time, Russians who lived abroad rapidly realized that as soon as you open your mouth and say smth not along with the mainstream opinion you immediately became ostracized by western society as an alien which has nothing common with so much advanced westerners.
I personally was very surprised to face this situation in American universities some of them highly ranked like SPEA IU Bloomington or KSU, Portland State Univ. and so on.. Everywhere the same – if you have different opinion, not a mainstream opinion you better keep it with you not to become outlaw. I remember myself talking about the shortcomings of American public health system and Obama care back in 2009. Then I was asked by a professor to drop off the class! If it is so true even for universities, which should provide platform for discussion, I can imagine how difficult is it to be in media business and have your own opinion.
Don’t just read the articles, because the media is crap.
Read the comments for a truer picture, and see how people take great delight at exposing it for the propaganda it is
