If you are an America reading this, you’re probably very tired of hearing about the billions and trillions of dollars Washington is spending needlessly, supposedly on your behalf. Well I am sorry, but I feel it is my duty to inform you. Now your friendly neighborhood U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control helping Crimean people who do not want our help.

Brought to me by The Wall Street Journal this morning comes the news Obama’s administration is leaking more money than the Titanic once did sea water. On Friday it was announced that the aforementioned agency would allow for export “certain” communications services and software to help the people of Crimea to communicate. Go ahead, read that again.
Under general license issued by the aforementioned agency the US is now free to export to Crimea the means for citizens there to instant message, email, and to use social networking and blogging to, according to the rocket scientists at these agencies, “directly describe their circumstances.” Okay, read that again too, but basically these idiots in Washington seem really convinced that Vladimir Putin himself has some sort of mind control over the people there on the peninsula! Here’s the PDF, in case you believe I am under Putin’s control too.
Like something out of a 60’s episode of “Get Smart”, the United States government has actually stepped into a kind of surreal crevasse of psychotic behavior this time. But wait, do not panic yet. The memorandum signed by the Acting Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, John E. Smith, is probably just an economic move to assist smart device and apps sales for the likes of Google, Apple, Microsoft and others. Apparently the authorizations come after said companies announced they were cutting off access for Crimeans to their products in compliance with sanctions and embargo rules adopted to punish Mr. Putin and Russia.
Now, miraculously, free and widely available services that people in Crimea have been using, they can go on using. So US taxpayers only really have to pay so that PR people and bureaucrats can play “Ring around the rosy”, spinning a corporate assist into counter-surveillance and freedom of speech for Russians in Crimea.
Oh yes, and The Wall Street Journal paid Samual Rubenfeld to tell you about the idiocy, I spent my time and yours, and guess what? Crimeans can go right on telling us that they are thrilled to be back in Russia.
Now wag your head back and forth like me.
